For the first time in more than 150 years, a completely new distillery will rise in Campbeltown – and you can be part of it from the very beginning.
At Witchburn, we will revive an almost forgotten way of making whisky – the High-Temperature Distillation. Until the late 1960s, stills in Scottish distilleries were fired directly with open flames, reaching up to 180 °C. This intense heat created a spirit of remarkable depth and richness, with naturally caramelised sweetness and a complex, layered texture. In the years that followed, distilleries began to replace this traditional method with modern steam heating – more convenient, but far less intense. At Witchburn, we will bring the original process back to life – in a sustainable, fully electric way, powered entirely by renewable energy.
Whether you’re a whisky club, a group of friends, or a passionate collector, owning a Witchburn cask will mean joining a very limited circle. Only a small number of casks will be released each year, each one maturing for ten years under bond in our coastal warehouses – just a few hundred metres from the open Atlantic. Storage for this full period will be included (and of course, you can keep your cask for even longer).
Our Angel’s Share Guarantee will ensure that your cask remains as full as nature allows: if the annual evaporation ever exceeds 5 %, Witchburn will top up your cask after ten years to restore its expected volume – free of charge.
When you decide it’s time, we’ll bottle your whisky under Witchburn’s own distillery label – exclusively for you, ensuring its authenticity and connection to the place where it was born.
Available Styles – Unpeated, Peated & Heavily Peated
Witchburn’s future spirit range will be crafted using our characteristic high-temperature production, designed to create a richer, more structured new make with outstanding ageing potential.
All casks offered to private individuals and whisky clubs will be premium, freshly emptied casks — first-fill Bourbon barrels from the USA or first-fill Oloroso Sherry barriques from Spain, made from either American or French oak.
Unpeated
Our unpeated make will offer a complex, barley-driven character with natural sweetness — ideal for long maturation in both Bourbon and Oloroso wood.
Peated
The peated style will feature a balanced, aromatic smoke, supported by the depth and texture created through our high-temperature process. It will pair beautifully with either Bourbon or Sherry casks.
Heavily Peated
At around 99 ppm, our heavily peated make will deliver an intense, full-bodied profile designed for customers seeking the highest level of peatiness.
This option will be available only to customers purchasing a minimum of three casks from the core offering.
Whichever style is chosen — Unpeated, Peated or Heavily Peated — every expression will benefit from Witchburn’s commitment to exceptional wood, precision distilling and long-term maturation quality.
Terms, Maturation & Sampling
- Storage under bond in Campbeltown for 10 years, close to the open sea
- Insurance included (fire & theft, replacement value)
- Sampling: New make sample at filling; after 3 years; after 6 years; at the 10-year mark
- Shipment of samples within EU/UK free of charge; additional fees may apply for other regions
- Casks can be inherited or transferred
Angel’s Share Guarantee
- If natural evaporation (Angel’s Share) exceeds 5% p.a., Witchburn will top up the cask to the expected level free of charge (on a degressive basis) after ten years.
- In case of leakage, Witchburn guarantees a free replacement cask.
