A Distillery Like No Other
With an annual capacity of up to 2.7 million liters of alcohol per year, Witchburn is the first completely new distillery to be constructed in Campbeltown in over a century and a half.
We are proud to be part of this historic whisky region. Here, where world-famous whiskies have been crafted for generations, Witchburn marks a new chapter – built entirely from scratch, and designed from day one to operate without oil / fossil fuels. Sustainability is not an afterthought, it is in our DNA.
Production & Technology

Fermentation
- Triple water use in the mash tun for maximum extraction
- Liquid yeast – used to start fermentation immediately and to prevent unwanted acidification
- Extremely slow distillation for maximum copper contact
- Engineering entirely finished
- Building permission fully granted
High-Temperature Whisky – Our Defining Characteristic
In the past, stills were fired directly with open flames – producing a level of heat that shaped the texture and flavour of the spirit in a way modern techniques rarely replicate. At Witchburn, we have revived the essence of this tradition – but with a sustainable and innovative twist.
Our uniquely designed stills allow us to reach 165–180 °C during distillation. This creates:
- A different viscosity in the liquid during distillation
- Partly caramelized sugar elements that enrich the spirit
- A layered, intense, unmistakable character in the new make
All of this is achieved without fossil fuels – powered exclusively by renewable steam energy. The design of our stills is a closely guarded secret, a technical hallmark that makes Witchburn truly one of a kind.
High-Temperature Whisky is our signature. It is what sets Witchburn apart – and it will define the bold style of our spirit for decades to come.
Machrihanish – Location & Vision
Witchburn is not a brand-new glass-and-steel complex. Instead, we are giving a historic building a new life – the former US Navy SEALs facility at Machrihanish. By re-purposing instead of rebuilding, we reduce our environmental footprint multiple times over:
- Saving materials and emissions otherwise needed for new construction
- Preserving a landmark building whose tower remains visible from afar
- Extending the lifecycle of existing structures in line with our sustainable philosophy
One building will house Warehouse No. 1 and No. 2, as well as the cask filling operation. Additional warehouses are located only a few hundred meters away, close to the open sea – ideal for maritime maturation.
At first, all work will focus on the inside: building up production step by step. Over time, we will also shape the outer appearance, transforming Witchburn into a place as inspiring as it is productive.
Initially, Witchburn will not be open to the public – there will be no visitor centre and no tours. Our focus is on creating exceptional spirit, while carefully planning the next stages of development.
